Pop Culture Sonic Meme Diamond to the Max

Mr. Franzese sent me this, a compilation of movie clips featuring the Wilhelm Scream. This particular sound effect is one that directors apparently use just for the sake of using it. I first heard about in in researching the "Kill Bill" trivia, and while the below video does not feature any "Kill Bill" segments, you'll have to trust me that it's there. According to the Wikipedia entry for it, the Wilhelm Scream was probably recorded by Sheb Wooley, the guy who later sang "Purple People Eater." So, you know, there's that.

The Wikipedia also posted a list of films that use the Wilhelm Scream.

That's awesome. There's a sound clip of two little kids laughing that I always hear in films, I wish I knew a little more about where it came from.

  2. Fantastic. And I was just going to say something about the two kids laughing - they use it all the goddamned time. There's also a crowd shouting "Hooray!" that I hear a lot, especialy in old cartoons.

  3. There's another stock scream that I've been searching for the past couple years. It's a "yeeeeaaargghh" type that I've seen particularly in the sci-fi genre. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's been used at the end of the Doom movie trailer, on those commercials for Sci-Fi's The Lost World, and as the selection sound for the Terran Academy in Starcraft. I figure you would have as good a chance as me of finding a clip of the sound or its backstory. Otherwise, I'm going to install Starcraft and rip the sound out because I can't find a single file of it online.
